Wood block carving, Old press printing knowledge
Posters & thank-you cards
Getting off the computer, it’s always nice to do some hands-on design work – carving out visuals, mixing paint, setting up the press, testing it out, and printing away. I have a lot of appreciation for this line of work and the history of it all.
Some of my big takeaways are that not everything has to, or should look perfect (the way it’s easy to make things look on the computer). Type stress & paint marks all add to the integrity of a piece of work. You can see a lot of the styles from the letterpress days present in today’s trends and it’s important to know where that came from.
